Camino Royale Day 24: Vega de Valcarce to Fonfria

Today, all of us, except for Raffy and Loic, sent our bags ahead of us in anticipation of the climb into the mountains of Galicia. Raffy lent me his daypack.

When we reached the marker for Galicia, we were jubilant. We are now on the final stretch to the capital, Santiago de Compostela.

I’d post more photos but they’re taking too long to upload.

It was mostly cold, some parts were windy, and the threat of rain was always upon us. Genevieve and I sang 80s songs along the way. She stopped at the town of Linares, while we carried on.

Loic, who wasn’t intending to walk at all today, ended up seeing me all the way through to our albergue.

After we got there, the rain finally fell and the others got caught in it.

Rosan tells me that we are expecting snow tomorrow. I will be carrying my backpack to Sarria. This is where pilgrims who can only do the minimum 100 km to Santiago start their walk to get their certificate.

Accommodations:

Albergue A Raboleira (?)

There’s only one albergue in this town. I think it was 8 or 9 euros per bed. There’s an area for couples with double bunk beds. They gave us blankets.

They didn’t have electrical outlets per bed so I had to charge my phones beside someone else’s bed which must have been a pain for them.

Separate showers and toilets for men and women, but they were right inside the dorm so they were noisy. They didn’t empty the trash cans which were overflowing. But they did have this cabinet INSIDE the women’s shower which I thought was rather genius.

We loved the common areas.

We didn’t have dinner because access to the dining area was outside and it was too cold to go out. But I heard it was very good.
