Camino Royale Days 11 and 12: Hontanas to Itero dela Vega (25 km); Boadilla de Camino to Carrion de los Condes (26 km.)

I forgot to mention that Raffy and Stephen got into Burgos late (while Alan and I bussed it) so they started their walk ate the next day. Since then, we haven’t seen them as they are lagging behind us by a day. When we do not hear directly from them, we do get news about them from others who pass them along the way and catch up with us.

The Meseta has been rough.

From Hontanas.
From Catrojeriz, going uphill.
Going downhill.
The last stretch to Itero de la Vega.

Alan went ahead of us to Itero de la Vega and, when he got to our albergue, he said he wasn’t happy with it so he took his stuff and proceeded to the next town.

Rosan and I got there and could not walk another step further.

Much to the shock of the other pilgrims, we took a very expensive private taxi to meet Alan at Boadilla Del Camino, eight kilometers away (complete with a driver who carried our bags).

Today, as we exited the albergue to start our walk, we bumped into Danish Kim who was injured when we met him outside Logroño. (We’re so slow, even the injured catch up with us.)

He ended up walking with us the whole day.
Had a nice picnic by a bridge and we discovered chorizillos albinos (chorizos cooked in white wine).

My feet have even more blisters now and feel totally ruined. I’m not sure why but the tips of my fingers feel calloused. I’m just falling apart.

In spite of all of our injuries, we are still having a good time. Tonight, we hung out waiting for the Holy Thursday procession to start and saw a lot of people we’ve been hanging out with on the Camino.

Tomorrow is going to be rough. The first leg is 17 km. of flat land. No trees, no buildings. Beyond that, most establishments will be closed on account of it being Good Friday. We plan to cook a big Pinoy breakfast before heading out. Wish us luck!

Will add photos to this post another time. Lights out and I need to sleep.

*3:15 AM Lots of snoring at the dorm. At least I got toads the photos…
