Checking In: Where? What? Huh???

Checking In: Where? What? Huh???

So I was traveling for three weeks (June 14 to July 5) and, in that time, I only went to yoga once.

Me and Mia Trinidad-Hashim after a Bikram Yoga class at True Fitness in Kuala Lumpur, 16 July 2016. We loved it that the gym had a disco ball.

While I may have walked a lot while I was in Sri Lanka, I also spent a lot of time sitting around in a van with my girl friends, snacking on rotis and wade (pronounced “wah-dee”).

Roti. Every day, we swore we’d never eat another roti again and yet, every day, we had roti. Cheese roti, egg roti, fish roti, chicken roti, roti in every shape, form and size – we ate it all.

Snacks on a train: Wade. Some sort of assorted fried snackage. My favourite was the one with dhal.

So I wasn’t in the best of shape when I arrived back in Manila.

After I finished with the business of renewing my passport, I got back into yoga at White Space. I went five days out of seven. Not because I was sore, which I was. And still am, FYI…

I missed Sunday because Saturday night ended at 6 AM. And then I missed Thursday because I was too tired from tossing and turning and had a full day ahead.

I had two days more in Manila after the end of my one-week yoga pass. So I went boxing.

The first one in at Elorde’s Boxing Gym today.

I should have combined boxing with yoga sooner. I love the contrast in workouts. Yoga is calm and serene, while boxing is aggressive and violent. Yoga emphasises opening the heart center and maintaining a straight spine, while boxing has you hunched over to protect yourself. I think both workouts are complimentary and make for a more well-rounded fitness regimen.

Wow. That sounded serious. Like I didn’t just have two bowls of ice cream. Har.

I did say “well-rounded”.

I need to get mitts for Siargao. And new gloves. And someone to hit.

And maybe a spine.
