I only did CrossFit twice last week. That’s because I was supposed to swim at the Midas Hotel last Thursday then do TRX on Friday. Except who’da known that the hotel wouldn’t have a pool – which is kinda key if I wanted to go swimming. Or that it would rain on Friday – when I didn’t want to go swimming.
So there was no backing out of doing CrossFit today. Not after the food orgies of the last two days.
This time I was fully prepared to run. I sprayed on sunscreen, put on light clothing, chose a baseball cap with the longest brim, threw my iPod and earphones in my bag and was ready to go.
Sure enough, there was a 400 m. run on the board. With a medicine ball.
But it seems that some people were negotiating with Karen and Matt on the WOD. So, for a while, it changed to a 250 m. row. (I took off the baseball cap and fastened on a bandana.) Then it was back to a 400 m. run. (Bandana off, baseball cap on.) They decided to stick to the run but one of the girls managed to talk Karen into striking out having to do it with a medicine ball. Phew!
We had to work in teams of four. In my group were Francis, Lady and Angie.
WOD was 25 minutes AMRAPs of:
- two-man 400 m. run
- squats
- toes-to-bar
I paired up with Francis and ran 400 m.outside while, in the gym, Lady did squats and Angie did toes-to-bar. As soon as we finished, the two girls went out to run while I did squats and Francis did toes-to-bar. When the girls finished, it was our turn to run again, while Angie did squats and Lady did toes -to-bar. We had to keep up this switching till time ran out.
I started out strong but lost steam very quickly. Francis and I ended up doing three 400 m. runs although, by the last lap, I was just brisk walking. I counted 70 squats on my first go, then 60. Did 26 knees-to-chest (- no, I can’t do toes-to-bar) and then 30 on my last set. Our team came in last and we had to do 25 burpees as a consequence.
Damn, that was tough.
