CrossFit Strength Training, 1 September 2011, 7:30 AM

I only figured out that the strength days we have at CrossFit MNL are what Michael Mason (see last post) refers to as Strength Bias Training, though possibly ours isn’t as hardcore.

I was late so I had no time to warm-up.

Partnered up with a girl named Monica and, together, we had to find our maximum weight for push presses. Mine was a measly 55 lbs., while hers was 75 lbs.

To find your maximum weight, carry what you’re comfortable with (- we started with the 35 lb. bar), do three reps. Add weight, do three more reps. Add weight, do two reps (- this is where I stopped at 55). Add weight, do two more reps. Add weight, do one rep.

Compute for 70% of your maximum weight and that’s what you lift for the mini-WOD that follows. I was the only wuss lifting the damned 35-lb. bar. Pfft. Stoopid shoulders.

WOD was AMRAPs in 6 minutes:

  • 5 push presses
  • 5 high box jumps – I was too embarrassed by my bar that I did the Rx which was the 18-inch box for women plus the 35-lb. plate (which added at least two more inches to the box).

Time ended after my first box jump on the seventh round.
