Those enrolled in unlimited Krav Maga classes at Krav Maga Philippines (KMP) can now avail of kettlebell sessions for free. YAY for me! I just might continue to do both.
From my last blog entry, it’s obvious that I am not a patient person. I’ve only been doing Krav Maga for the past three months and my attendance, at best, has been spotty but, already, I was doubting if I would ever be any good at it. Take the 360 Defense, for instance. It looks easy, but I could never get it right.
Here’s a video on the technique. But the way they teach it to us at KMP is to block and counter-attack at the same time.
I’d always block, and then counter-attack.
I had taken the 360 Defense under Dindo and then, again, several times under Bjorn and several times under Fred. I finally had a session with Ed and he had a very simple technique for me to finally get it. He just had to count to one.
Last Wednesday, while sparring with Angel, Bjorn’s wife, I noticed that I was able to block all her blows and do a counter-attack at the same time. By George, I think I’ve got it!
Also, the kettlebells I am lifting are gradually increasing in weight and my form is getting better. And, last night, while trying on some clothes, I noticed that my back has some new definition that wasn’t there before. It seems that all those extra resistance band lat rows I’ve been doing after class have been paying off.

So, yes, persistence pays and if I stick to doing kettlebells and Krav Maga, who knows at what level I’ll be next year? Maybe I’ll finally be able to take down Angel. Good god, that tiny girl is strong!
My only problem with the PKTC/KMP is their schedule. If I have something planned for the evening, that automatically means I can’t train.
I’ve been told that there is an 8 AM Krav Maga session and, for the past two days, I’ve set my alarm clock to go off at 6:30 but, when I’ve gone to bed at midnight and then am wide awake at 3 AM, there is no way in hell I am getting out of bed at 6:30 AM. And, besides, I don’t like competing for cabs with the rush-hour crowd.
Will talk to Ken, the owner. If I can use the kettlebell gym during off hours, even without a trainer then, yeah, I might keep on going.
