Mount Pulag Info and Itinerary

Mount Pulag Info and Itinerary

As the highest mountain in Luzon, Mount Pulag attracts a lot of mountain climbers. Highlights of the climb include the mossy forests and the grassland summit with its “sea of clouds” phenomenon. The easiest and least demanding of the three, this is the perfect starter for those who wish to do “The Philippine Climbing Trilogy”, the highest peaks on all three major island groups of the Philippines.

FAQs
1. Will each of us carry our own sleeping bag during the climb? Or will porters carry it for us? Yes, you will carry your own sleeping bag and personal belongings. The porter support included in the tour is for your tents, cooking equipment, other camping equipment, and food. You do have the option of hiring another porter at P300 per day. Tip: If your group wants to hire a group porter, you can bring a large bag where you can put all the stuff that you want the porter to bring. In that case, the porter fee can be shared by the group, thus minimizing additional expenses.

2. What type and size of backpack should we use? Normal backpacks can be used on this trip. Just be sure it is sturdy enough.

3. Things to bring?
– Flashlight
– Sleeping bag
– Trail food (chocolates, nuts, chips, fruits, etc, depends on your preference)
– Warm clothing / blankets
– Trail water (about 1.5 – 2 liters)
– Rain coat
– Sun block

4. How cold will it be? We will be expecting a temperature of around 17 degrees C at the camp until the afternoon. It can go as low as five degrees at night and at the summit. Two weeks ago, we had a -2 degrees C at around 11pm – 3am. Please make sure to bring clothing for cold weather.

5. How difficult is the climb? An average person can finish the trek. It takes about four hours from the jump -off point to the camp site, and another 1.5 hours to the summit.

6. What kind of shoes should we wear? Trekking shoes are highly recommended. Though you can also wear rubber shoes or trekking / rugged sandals. I personally recommend The North Face brand if you are considering buying footwear.
