TRX Session 1, Finix

TRX Session 1, Finix

That TRX deal on Deal Grocer was sweeter than I thought. It came with three TRX classes at the Finix Fitness Club, which I thought was limited to the 7-8 PM classes they hold every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Not so. Apparently, you can opt for a 30-minute private session. Since Finix is located in the bowels of Pasig and I do not like trying to find a cab in unfamiliar places by myself at night, I went for the private session. I set the first one for 1 PM this afternoon.

“You can do cardio first,” the receptionist was saying.

“Cardio?”

“Yes, you can use all of our facilities.”

That kinda threw me in for a loop. I was there to do TRX and hadn’t factored in anything else. So I started wondering if I should do cardio and take advantage of what Finix had to offer, because that place had some serious machinery going on. It’s a good thing Benjie saved me from workout overload by quickly ushering me to the TRX room on the second floor.

We did a few stretches then it was down to some TRX moves.

I love TRX! It looks easy but it’s actually a tough workout. And it’s always good to work out with different trainers to get a fresh perspective of the workout. Benjie showed me a lot of new TRX exercises that I hadn’t learned before.

He also kept asking me if I wanted to stop and rest. Each time, I told him no. I think he was impressed.

Later on, he told me that I was the strongest person he’d ever taught TRX to and that, normally, no one could do all the stuff that we did on their first day. (Well, I definitely could not stick my leg out to one side while doing squats with the other, but he was impressed that I did reverse crunches.) Benjie didn’t seem to be listening to me. (He must have asked me a million times where I lived. And a million times back, I answered him.) I had mentioned to him earlier that I had already done eight sessions with Reema Chanco back in – was it March? I then told him that I also did kettlebells and CrossFit. When he asked about CrossFit, to illustrate, I told him about “Cindy’s Mistress” and demonstrated a burpee to squat clean. I also showed him a box jump on a pretty high bench and surprised myself by pulling it off properly (- I jumped on and off).

Benjie told me that I should consider training with Finix to be a TRX instructor. Maybe when I graduate from reverse crunches to atomic push-ups.

Am so looking forward to finally picking up my TRX and door anchor from Finix’s Serendra office before I leave for Siargao next week. Will get a better workout with it while traveling than the Reebok bands.
