My diet is now resembling my workouts. Two days on, one day off, two days on… two days off??? Please, no!

Tell me about it.
Well, it was inevitable, wasn’t it? Of course I had to try Chatime’s kronuts! You didn’t really think I’d be able to resist it – especially if I was sortakinda in the neighborhood but maybe-veered-off-a-few-kilometers-to-the-left?
IT WAS ON THE WAY.
And I almost jumped out of the cab at a Dunkin’ Donuts – just to finally taste all four kinds of cronuts in Manila. But I didn’t! I am a paragon of virtue and self-restraint. But maybe I didn’t jump out because (a) the vehicle was moving and (b) it was raining.
ANYHOO – guess what! If Dolcelatte’s croughnut wasn’t sweet enough and Wildflour’s croissant donut was too sweet, Chatime’s kronut was just right. How very Goldilocks. The fairy tale, not the bakery. I had all three flavors: sugar-glazed, vanilla and chocolate. I swear I was intending to take just a bite out of each. And I did! And then I continued taking a bite out of each, in round robin fashion, until they were all gone.

And this was after I had their ham and cheese croissant. Which was pretty tasty and flaky as far as croissants go, which made me hopeful about the kronuts.
I know. I’m a sick, twisted individual.
But, yes. Chatime. At their Pioneer branch. At only P55/kronut, they are well worth it. Its pastry approximated how I imagined a cronut to be. Crisp and flaky, but with that taste of those freshly fried sugary doughnuts that they used to sell in front of grocery stores.
As I write this, I am noshing on some white chocolate-covered polvorons that I had bought from Taste Central last week, but only remembered that I had yesterday. The package says that “Mi Casa Gourmet Specialties” makes them from #57 Connecticut St., North East Greenhills (tel. 02-724-5430).

My two cents is that they would be a lot better if the polvorons were more buttery – like the ones from Dial K for Kitchen, and if the white chocolate was thicker and richer. As they are, they’re kinda boring, although they are definitely better slightly chilled than completely frozen. I’m down to the last three out of 12. Maybe they’ll be better at room temperature?
I should really skip dinner tonight.
