Working Out While Traveling

Working Out While Traveling

I know how hard it is to find the time and energy to work out everyday, and finding the inclination to do so while on holiday is even harder.

But if you are intent on it, there are a lot of things that you can do when you’re globe trotting.

Whenever I travel, if the hotel I am staying at has no pool or gym, I pack along a resistance band. I got mine from Reebok (resistance level 2, 1 being the easiest and 3 the hardest).

I haven’t mined YouTube for what I can do with the bands but it doesn’t take a genius to come up with a few things.

Stepping on the bands, I can adjust the tension by how far I distance my feet from each other, and do the following:

Attaching the bands to a door handle, I do the following:

But even without the bands, there are a lot of other exercises you can do in your hotel room. Right now, I am in the tiniest of rooms in Shinsaibashi, Osaka and, this afternoon, I simulated jumping rope for three minutes then did push-ups and squats. Then, after working out with the band, I did a one-minute plank and a one-minute wall squat, as well as CrossFit-style sit-ups, and leg raises.

(If you are so inclined, you could also do side planks and tricep dips.)

I did a half-assed effort yesterday but, today, I did a decent 30-minute workout. I’ve also been walking a lot and dancing in clubs. I’m not sure if any of that has made up for how much food and alcohol I have consumed on this trip but… maybe I burned off a quarter of that “rhea cheese” chocolate almond crepe that I had this afternoon?
