I told Miggy not to tell me what the WOD was today and, of course, he did. Typically, right before I was about to leave for CrossFit, I couldn’t resist googling “Murph”. I balked when I saw it. I was about to bail and already took my jacket off. But, before I lost my nerve completely, I put it back on and rushed out to find a cab.

Today, I worked out at CrossFit MNL’s new space at Fort Bonifacio’s army gym (see details below). So did a few others from the Eastwood box. (Joaquin, Miko and Mark were there.) It’s, um, a very rugged box. Perfect for Hero WOD Murph actually.

WOD, for time, was:

  • 1 mile run
  • 100 pull-ups
  • 200 push-ups
  • 300 squats
  • 1 mile run

There’s a running track near the gym but you have to go over a foot bridge to get there. I took my sweet time doing the run because, really, I couldn’t do more. I felt bloated and gross from the past three days. It didn’t help when it started to rain.

I was the last one back at the box. Miggy gave us the option of doing half Rx for pull-ups, push-ups, squats. I took it and ran. Not literally, of course.

Seriously. I don’t understand why people run. No one ever stops and smells the roses anymore. Well, I stopped and smelled every goddam “Walkers, Keep Right” sign, every drinking fountain and every dead leaf on the ground. I can’t say that they smelled good but I certainly felt all the better for it. It took me about 20 minutes to stroll around the track. (I think my time was 51:43 minutes.)

By the time I got back to the box, the guys (who were all doing Rx) were practically dead on the floor. I shouted out encouragement but had to leave right away. My face and neck were breaking out in rashes.

This was the first time it’s happened at CrossFit. I have some sort of strange allergy and I can only surmise that it’s caused by an excess of salt water on my face as it only ever happens when I go into the sea or after a particularly strenuous workout. It’s not a big deal and subsides pretty quickly as soon as I wash my face with fresh water.
