I nearly missed UFC today trying to get my eight hours of sleep! It’s a good thing I woke up in time for the main event. Yay, Muñoz!

Mark Muñoz, the Filipino Wrecking Machine, won UFC 138’s main event against Chris Leben by TKO after the second round. The fight was stopped after it was determined that Leben’s vision was impaired from a cut on his left eye. (My two cents: Although Muñoz is a good wrestler, I don’t think he’s ready to take on Anderson Silva just yet. I wouldn’t mind being proved wrong.)

So I got my eight hours and did a WOD. I’m back on the straight and narrow! Literally and figure-a-tively.

You see what I just did there?

Never mind.

After skipping rope and rowing, we did the plyometric warm-up together which meant, according to André, one of the other CrossFitters, that we had to do the following exercises (except for the first two which we did in place) moving from one point to another:

Today’s WOD was four rounds in 30 minutes:

  • 400 m. run – It rained the whole day yesterday but the sun made a brief appearance this morning. By the afternoon though, the sky had darkened again. It started drizzling on my third run and the clouds finally gave way by the time I was on my way home. I’m not sure which is worse: running under the heat of the sun or running in the rain. Maybe it’s just running. Under any condition.

  • 30 box jacks – Um, if you clicked on the link to the video and watched what it’s supposed to look like, you’ll notice that the guy demonstrating the workout was using a VERY LOW box. The lowest box we could use was a 12" box which, no, I don’t think is low enough. Good grief. Try jumping astride a 12" box after a 400 m. run. You’ll want to DIE. During the first round, I kept thinking, "I have to do 30 of these?! FOUR TIMES?! " Yes, I wanted to die. I was so exhausted, sometimes, I thought I’d miss the box completely. Anyway, I did my own sad, little version of the box jack. I jumped on the box with the ball, and then lifted it over my head. Which kinda missed the point of the whole plyometric thingie – which I just googled.

According to Wikipedia: “Plyometrics (also known as ‘plyos’) is a type of exercise training designed to produce fast, powerful movements, and improve the functions of the nervous system, generally for the purpose of improving performance in sports. Plyometric exercises may also be referred to as explosive exercises.” Hmm… All this time I thought it was PYLOmetrics. Interesting. And I still don’t know what it means. Har.

  • 20 weighted jumping lunges – Again if you watched the video, we didn’t do it like that. We had to hold the plate above our heads. Seeing as I’ve committed to doing CrossFit till I leave and would still like some use of my shoulders for tomorrow’s WOD, I used a 10-lb. plate. (Rx for women was 25-lbs.) I hate jumping lunges. Yes, just as much as I hate squats.

  • 10 burpees to pull-ups – Holymotherof…! Did you watch that video?! Damn, that girl is STRONG. If I could do just one pull-up… Needless to say, mine didn’t look anything like that. Those of us who needed bands to do pull-ups, used the rings and just jumped and pulled ourselves up.

I only completed three rounds and the run of the fourth round.

Oh, and I finally established that the person whom I thought was Cheloy is indeed Jaloy. Nice chap. Very positive and encouraging. He still seems to think we can win the Paleo Challenge so I’m going to do my best not to let him down. Any more than I already have, that is. Go, Team 3!
