Dead Beat

Yikes. Last blog entry was September 4. Two months and a half of silence. In that time, I spent about a month in Europe (September 5 to October 5, to be exact: France, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic) and about six and a half weeks in Siargao (October 10 up to tomorrow, November 25), and – I swear – during that time, including the few days that I was in Manila and Cebu, I sat at the computer a few hundred times and… well, it just wasn’t happening.

And it isn’t just the blog posts that I haven’t done. I didn’t do anything that I was supposed to do while in Siargao. ZERO. NADA. RIEN.

Hell, I never even got around to making a to-do list!

I blame this period of unproductiveness on insomnia. I didn’t think it could get any worse but it has. My overactive mind is now aided and abetted by copious amounts of tea, the occasional cup of coffee, and large doses of nicotine.

Because it really isn’t social smoking anymore when all you do is socialise, is it?

Siargao has become such popular tourist destination that there’s always somebody to welcome or to send off, and if it isn’t somebody’s birthday, then it’s some establishment’s anniversary. You can pretty much party on any given day of the week here.

So the insomnia + hangovers has made me cease to be a high-functioning insomniac. I wake up exhausted, with a massive hankering for bacon and eggs and grilled cheese sandwiches.

Feed me. (Internet file photo.)

And then I’ll be in a stupor for most of the day, watching old episodes of “30 Rock”… Which means that the last thing on my mind is exercise. And, of course, the uncontrolled eating and the lack of exercise only exacerbate the overall feeling of lethargy. It’s a vicious cycle that’s hard to break.

The good news is that my pantry of THINGS THAT SHOULD NOT BE EATEN is almost empty. The bad news is that it’s mostly been emptied into my belly.

Oh, I also did manage to order a bathroom scale from Lazada. It’s telling me that I gained two kilos in the last two days that my friends from Manila were in town but…

At least I know it, right?

It’s ironic that I am now looking forward to getting back to Cebu (tomorrow, weather permitting) and Manila (on Sunday) to detox. The nightmarish traffic in both cities are deterrent enough for me to stay home and out of trouble. She told herself wistfully…
