After a very satisfying Zumba lesson (- Don’t knock it! I liked it!), I went home and made myself a croque monsieur. Yes, this is one of the Martha Stewart how-to videos I was watching in Siargao. (I told you I was armed with a grocery list. I’ve been hitting up all the grocery stores and delis since I arrived and built up quite an impressive food arsenal. Will report on those Deep-fried Oreos soon.)
It was awesome.
While I used gruyere for inside the sandwich, I substituted the grated gruyere in the bechamel and on top of the sandwich with regular grated boxed cheese – and it still turned out fantastic. Cooked in a mini counter-top oven, no less. (I just realized that we have a real oven at the apartment here in Cebu that’s been hiding behind a tea towel all this time. Ah, well…)
Check out the pics:
It was obscenely delicious.
I lovelovelove anything with ham and cheese. It is one of my favorite food combinations, like peanut butter and bananas, strawberries and cream, barbecued pork and guisadong munggo (stir-fried mung beans). Har.
Mmmmmm…
