It seems that Tong Garden is no longer distributing its Paleo-friendly products (the All Natural Cocktail Snack and the Tropical Nuts & Fruits Mix) in the Philippines. They’ve been very difficult to find. The last time I saw the All Natural Cocktail Snack, they were on a buy-one-take-one promo at Rustan’s at the Power Plant Mall. (Except that it was labeled at P68.50 – or something like that – on the shelf and then registered as P94.50 – or something like that – at the check-out line. Is that even legal???!!!)
And since I don’t have the time or the inclination to go all the way to The Nuts Store in Quiapo, I’m very pleased to have found a similar product to Tong Garden’s All Natural Cocktail Snack at NAIA Terminal 3’s Duty Free section. It’s Camel’s Natural Cocktail Mix, from Singapore. US$7.95 gets you a resealable bag containing 450 grams of figs, raisins, cashews, almonds, and pistachio kernels. It’s “fibre rich”, “no salt added”, “baked not fried” and is “trans fat free”. I ordered ten bags to be picked up when I got back from Hong Kong (and thus subject to a 7% discount – or something like that).

Not bad at all.
I finally remembered that I had all this trail mix and brought a bag with me to Krav Maga tonight. I munched on it in the cab on the way home. It’s pretty good. Although I think it might go the way of Tong Garden and be recalled, possibly because the figs don’t hold up very well. If they removed the figs – or found a better way of drying them – it would be the perfect trail mix.
I’m going to buy more raisins to add to the bag. I do like my sugar. It’ll boost my energy and make for a good snack on my next trip.
