Run, Forrest, Run!

Run, Forrest, Run!

I was all dressed up and ready to go to CrossFit but I was a little bit too early again and still groggy from my morning nap (yes, I had gotten up too early again and had gone back to sleep), so I thought I’d kill time and quickly check on what’s new on Facebook. And although I’ve “liked” CrossFit MNL’s Facebook page a while back, I had never noticed any of their updates on my homepage. Until today.

It read:

Belated tribute to our HEROES. Lumberjack 20 at 11am and 4pm. See you.

Lumberjack 20

20 Deadlifts (275lbs)
Run 400m
20 KB swings (2pood)
Run 400m
20 Overhead Squats (115lbs)
Run 400m
20 Burpees
Run 400m
20 Pullups (Chest to Bar)
Run 400m
20 Box jumps (24")
Run 400m
20 DB Squat Cleans (45lbs each)
Run 400m

If there’s one thing I don’t do, it’s run.

It used to be because I couldn’t. And then I gradually trained myself to be able to (mostly by turning up my iPod) so now I think it’s more out of policy than inability.

Yes, you have my word that I will never, ever join the legions of midlife marathon runners around the world. Ever.

I had heard about the weekend CrossFit sessions. That they were tougher than the regular sessions and that they made you do things like – eek! – run outdoors. (Outdoors? In Manila???) Which is why I haven’t been to a single weekend session. Since today is a holiday, I suspected that they would pull something similar. I wasn’t wrong.

I guess I’m going to tomorrow ‘s CrossFit.

Moral of the story: Never find out what the WOD is unless you’re at the gym and it’s too late to back out.
