Salsa Dancing

Salsa Dancing

I loveloveLOVE it!

I resumed lessons this week.

Last Tuesday, they threw two of us newbies in with the advanced dancers. We reviewed dile que no and enchufe. And then we learned the rueda de casino , a type of salsa round dancing (as opposed to line dancing), that involves a swapping of partners. The steps we learned were:

  • vamos abajo y arriba
  • basico de rueda
  • dame una

While we newbies held our own against the advanced students, our instructors insisted that we take extra lessons this week to catch up with the others. So we arranged for a Thursday class, for which I was the only one who showed up.

Which worked great for me because then I had the two instructors to myself. They watched me like a hawk and corrected everything that needed to be corrected. It was great!

Today, we learned the sombrero and cuarenta y cinco. They seemed more like advanced moves to me.

It was a lot to remember – the steps, the position of the arms, paying attention to my partner and his cues, and then then trying to make it look sexy and effortless at the same time. It was hard work but a lot of fun! If I could do this everyday, I would.

For those interested in lessons, please send me a message and I will put you in touch with these fabulous, sexy Cubano salsa instructors.
