I was watching Cinemalaya’s “Amok” yesterday and was surprised when Chad, one of the guys in CrossFit, came out on screen.

We started doing CrossFit at about the same time last month. He told me that he was trying to do it everyday because he only had a month in Manila before he had to go back to Boracay, where he worked as a kiteboarding instructor. When I saw him again last week, I asked why he was still around. He said he was now working in Manila. “I’m an actor,” he said. I thought he was kidding.
At today’s session, I recognized another actor from another Cinemalaya film. His name is Joaquin and, if I am not mistaken, he was in “Niño”.

While Core Kinesis is popular with people from the television and fashion industries (I’d often run into Supermodel 2011 winner, Danica Magpantay), I guess CrossFit has the up-and-coming young indie actors.

Congratulations to “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank” for winning Best Film at this year’s Cinemalaya! Truly well deserved. The film also won awards for its director (Marlon Rivera), scriptwriter (Chris Martinez), and actress (Eugene Domingo).
