It was too freakishly hot to work out this weekend so, um, I’ve come up with a list of my top five favorite mashups instead. Please feel free to share your music with me, especially if you’ve got stuff that I can run to (and I don’t mean the sound of a police siren wailing). I realize that my music may be more than a little bit dated but I hope you like these tracks anyway.
1. “Come Closer Together”, feat. Nine Inch Nails vs. The Beatles. Whodathought these songs could get any dirtier? I love it!
2. “Breathe, Child”, feat. The Prodigy vs. Crystal Method. In his first mix, the guy just played both tracks on top of each other and it totally worked. Here, I guess he gets a wee bit more creative. I just love the energy of both songs. Harder, faster, and louder, please!
3. Norwegian Recycling’s “Hey Oh Tonight”, feat. Mindi Abair vs. the Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. Damien Rice. I love Norwegian Recycling but I believe this is his best work. I could listen to it the whole day. (And I have.)
4. “Come Back And Say It Right”, feat. Paul Young vs. Nelly Furtado. Pure genius. The mashup and the video are absolutely seamless. Bravo to the DJ for reviving a long forgotten song and giving it a new spin.
5. “Hung Up At First Sight”, feat. Kylie Minogue vs. Madonna…
… tied with “Boogie Oogie Music” feat. Madonna vs. A Taste of Honey. While I like “Boogie Oogie Music” more, “Hung Up At First Sight” is a cleaner – i.e. less messy – mashup. They’re both great to dance to.
