Food recommendations from last week – BEFORE I started the Paleo Challenge:
- The juicy mini burgers at Chili’s. An ever-reliable goodie.
- The dark chocolate gelato at Caffe Ti-Amo.
- The kurobuta sinigang at Mamou. Please tell me that they make this from scratch! (Of course, I would have preferred the pork to have more fat, but the tenderness of the kurobuta made up for it.) Have it with the bagoong (shrimp paste) red rice.
- The Nutella beignet at Paris Delice.* I had totally written off Paris Delice when I was terribly disappointed by their quiches, but some friends insisted that I try their Nutella beignets. I have no idea what a beignet is but, dang, this thing is awesome! Think of a really good doughnut, with a huge ball of Nutella inside. I had two. I think you should too.

This is a nutella beignet. Best served cold. (Internet file photo.)
- Empanada MAS, at the food court of the Enterprise Building, has mini empanadas stuffed with semi-sweet chocolate, peanut butter fudge, and nutella. The empanada itself is so-so but chocolate, peanut butter and Nutella are three of my favorite things in the world.

Nutella makes the world go round.

Update:
3 September 2012
I am writing this just as I am beginning my month-long raw food detox. But, before embarking on the detox, I went on a massive eating spree, and had Nutella beignets three times last week. Not because they were that good but because they were terrible. I kept hoping that it was just a bad batch and it would eventually get better. It didn’t. Sad to say, I think the ones I had that first time at the Enterprise Building were the flukes. The ones at the main cafe on Makati Avenue weren’t doughnut-y at all. They tasted more like stale bread. I thereby take back that recommendation. Boo.
